QUOTE
The Daytona Beach News-Journal -
With five weeks left in the regular season the Orlando Magic reduced their magic number to three with a win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

The Magic need to win just three more games before the regular season ends in mid-April, or watch the Bulls and Nets lose a trio of games over the same time frame. Either way, Orlando will clinch the Eastern Conference's third playoff berth.

Let the countdown begin. Now let's just hope we can avoid injuries.

Now I dont mean to be looking ahead, but say the Magic advance past the first round, and say the Nets get in as #8. Wouldnt the #1 vs #8 and #3 vs #6 seed matchups be on the same bracket? So should the Magic advance and Nets get by the Celtics, the Magic would meet the Nets in the 2nd rnd right??

That scenario should be correct right? If so I am really hoping this happens as I would LOVE to attend a Magic PLAYOFF game in New Jersey!!!

***Oh wait....I forgot about seeding. The Pistons would then face the Nets in that scenario right? The Pistons AND Celtics would have to be elimanated for the Magic/Nets to meet in the 2nd round.

The winner of the 3-6 match-up faces the winner of the 2-7 match-up in the second round.

1-8 winner faces 4-5 winner.

The Celtics would mop the floor with the Nets.

The Orlando Magic got the first order of business out of the way, clinching a playoff berth on Saturday night with a 122-111 victory against the Indiana Pacers at Amway Arena.

Next up on the Magic's to-do list: secure a high postseason seeding and win as many games as possible.

Oh, and one more thing --- and this is at Coach Stan Van Gundy's request, er, demand:

Please, take care of the basketball.

The Magic (44-24) moved to 20 games over .500 and beat the Pacers despite committing 22 turnovers that accounted for 25 Pacers' points.

Neither ESPN.com, Yahoo, or NBA.com have an "x" next to the Magic's name in the standings (signifying that they've clinched a playoff berth).

I wonder what's up with that?

I guess. They have it that we won tonight though, that's why it's odd.

Magic power forward Tony Battie, who has missed all season after having surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder, said he has added some light shooting practice and basketball drills to his rehabilitation routine. NBA doctors deemed Battie out for the season, allowing the Magic to claim a medical salary exception, but the 11-year veteran has continued to work in hopes of returning for the playoffs. Said Battie: ``It’s getting stronger, but still it’s been just five months of an eight-month rehabilitation. We’ll see how it progresses.’’

Was checking NBA.com and ESPN.com to confirm the playoff berth too. I guess it's not yet official? Mellow.gif

Yahoo has made it official.

ESPN,com, NBA.com - not yet.

Why? I have absolutely no idea. Especially NBA.com, of all sites.
