QUOTE
Orlando's Marcin Gortat will be the Mehmet Okur of this summer's free agent class. Dwight Howard's raw backup isn't going to come cheaply, but the team that collars him will have spent wisely on a guy guaranteed to average an easy double double.

http://www.nypost.com/seven/03172009/sport...9923.htm?page=2

I could see Gortat being a (low) double-double threat, and I'm also worried that he's going to want to start somewhere. I remember someone posting an article awhile back about how Gortat's agent will be looking for a 'big' money deal this summer.

I remember when we traded for Gortat, thinking this was just another castaway late 2nd round pick who probably wouldn't amount to much in the NBA - if he even came over (this was during the Vazquez/Kasun era). Boy was I wrong.

I hate to say it, but I just don't think he'll be back with us next season. Signs are pointing towards him going on to bigger and better things. I sure hope I'm wrong though.

But what if we let Hedo walk and just signed Gortat instead?

Any thoughts on a Gortat/Howard/Lewis frontline?

gortat has played well.... don't think he is in the same class as okur tho... would like to keep him but terk is are main prority gortat may be a casualty becuase we need terk for what we do. Terk takes alot of clutch shots and has the ability to penetrate. gortat is young and can rebound don't think he will ever be that big of a scorer

watchin Gortat.... he is better than people think or want to admit.....he has a very high basketball IQ....and when counted on or when the stage is set[ex. game being televised in is home country] he comes thru.

A Howard/Gortat/Lewis frontline sounds great on paper to us Magic fans, but in reality I don't think it will be enough to stay where we are at now...

We need to resign Turk, and find a way to get rid of that bum Pietris, then maybe we can save Gortat.

For the considerable deal, I would expect Rafer to stay at least five years or three years as a back-up because he plays very well on the point guard role.

I don't see that, unless he wins the starting job from Jameer next year. He's been a starter in this league and can probably find a home where he has that opportunity again, not be a backup...unless he decides he'd rather stay here and try to win a title as a backup.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. I'd hate to lose both players though.

This is going to be an interesting off-season for the Magic...hopefully a good one.

Y'all realize that Rafer is 32, right? Re-signing him to a five-year deal in 2010 means we'd be paying him until he'd be 37. Rafer's cool and all... but I don't think he has a future here beyond next season.

I really can't see Rafer here long-term - especially I expect the Magic to be fishing for a young point guard in the draft.

I'm much more concerned with keeping Gortat. Size, potential, and a great accent. That's all we need.

Yeah Gortat is actually very valuable to the team. He's been a great backup for Dwight and he can jump, block shots, get rebounds, play solid defense, and also score with the basketball. Turkoglu is really good and all, but we could hopefully get another wing player to replace him down the line in the future or get Gortat at Center starting for us next season.

I don't see Gortat getting any kind of big money out on the market. Not happening.
